An Intimate Engagement Shoot – Leah & Ryan

We hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! We are celebrating it with this stunning engagement shoot of Leah and Ryan. It makes me so happy to see brides full of love and confident alongside their partner. I adore the backdrop and everything about this shoot.

When and how did you get engaged?

Ryan and I got engaged in October 2016. Ryan took me out to a beautiful restaurant in the riverside district of our hometown. After dinner we walked along the path near the water. To be honest, I was suspicious that he might propose that evening. I was just waiting for it to finally happen! However, we ended up going home. That’s when I began to lose hope that this would be the night and we walked back into our apartment (I’ll admit to my slight disappointment). Suddenly Ryan questioned why I was taking my shoes off? – the night wasn’t over yet, and we had places to go. He took me back outside and I hopped into the passenger side of his truck. He drove further and further from town and slowly I realized we were headed to his family’s farm. Ryan pulled into the property and put the car in park. Ryan had the biggest smile as we got out of the truck. It was late, almost midnight. He and I stood totally alone under a wide open sky. Then, enveloped only by starlight, Ryan bent down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

Were there nerves before your engagement shoot and what did you enjoy the most about the experience?

I was extremely nervous before my engagement shoot! I was worried that I would look back on these pictures and see all of my biggest insecurities magnified. But I’m a planner, and I picked out outfits that I felt comfortable and confident in. I got my hair and makeup done. I went into that engagement shoot feeling my absolute best. The greatest part of the experience was that I got to laugh, smile, and snuggle up to my man while our photographer captured these perfectly natural moments. Ryan and I were relaxed and happy (it shows in the photos!). We ended up having a blast doing something that seemed totally out of our element.

Any advice for nervous brides who are having an engagement shoot?

First, research photographers and pick a person whose style you love. Also keep in mind that we all have a “good side” and areas that we are self-conscious about. Don’t be afraid to tell your photographer those things! A professional will keep that in mind while shooting and you’ll feel comfortable and beautiful through the entire process. And of course have fun!

Where did the shoot take place? Why did you choose it?

Our photographer suggested we choose two different locations and two different outfits. Formal and informal to give us a variety of images. For the formal shoot we chose a historic residential area in our town. The tall trees and red brick streets made the perfect backdrop. It was also a great place to include our dog Olive! For the informal shoot we knew it had to be in a pasture where my family used to board our horses. There’s something special about it and extremely sentimental. There’s a picturesque red wooden barn exactly like you would imagine in the country side with stunning horses grazing in the field. We were there just before sunset, that magic hour for photographers. Everything felt so comfortable and having Ryan with me it definitely felt like home.

What are you looking forward to the most about your wedding day?

Calling my best friend my husband. Ryan and I have known each other since we were eight years old – and after 14 years of friendship, and 3 years of dating, we will finally be husband and wife!

What did you love about your photographer?
I’ve always had a passion for photography and my photographer was someone whose work I had admired for a long time. Her style is familiar and intimate, and she really knows how to play with the natural light at sunset. I didn’t even feel the need to give her a “shot list”. I was able to rely on the fact that she would deliver a beautiful mix of photos. She was wonderful, nothing felt too posed (even when she was posing us!) She was easy to work with and coached us through the entire shoot.  She consistently made us feel at ease, complimenting us or saying how sweet we were. A good photographer will take a photo, a great photographer will leave you smiling even after the shoot.

Engagement Shoot By The Water – Charlotte & Rob.

We have a beautiful engagement shoot today. Featuring Rob & Charlotte. Taken in Dorset at the RSBP reserve by Stuart Dudleston. Stuart likes to capture all of the candid moments and raw emotions of his couples. His natural photography style works beautifully against the backdrop of calm waters. The couple are captured perfectly! Charlotte tells us their love story and gives her advice for brides to be who are a little bit nervous about their own engagement shoot.

We got engaged this April in France. It was our first holiday together and we went to Disneyland for the day, after a fun filled day during the illumination show in the evening he passed me a padlock that had a message engraved on it. I read the message that said will you marry me, turned around and he was down in one knee, I cried and said yes and then we both enjoyed the fireworks as an engaged couple. It was the perfect end to a magical day.

The thing I’m looking forward to the most about our wedding is having a day celebrating our love with all of our favourite people. I’m excited for our two families to become one. I also can’t wait to see his face as I walk down the isle, I’m hoping he’ll shed a tear or two. I’m also so excited for our first dance together, we have already chosen the song, it’s one that’s a bit different but means a lot to both of us so I think that will be a very special moment.

My advice would be stop worrying about what other people think. I’m not putting any pressure on myself to lose weight before the wedding. Rob asked me to marry him as I am now so why should I change for one day? He loves me as I am and I am learning to do the same. I was incredibly worried about the shoot as I usually take photos of myself where I can put the camera at a certain angle or delete it if I don’t like it or take a photo of my ‘good side’. When I saw my photos for the first time I was so surprised, I loved them! I wasn’t looking at my tummy or my arms, I was looking at my huge smile of happiness, the look of love in my eyes, they way that Rob looks at me. I’m so happy that we did it, Stuart did an amazing job at making us feel comfortable and I feel like he really captured our relationship and our feelings for each other.

An Engagement Shoot In The City: Sarah & Paul.

Sarah and Paul

Congratulations on your engaement, can you tell us how Paul proposed?

We got engaged in September 2017 whilst on holiday in Dubai. The proposal was very understated which I feel was more us. I think women dream of the proposal and how elaborate it will be but actually I loved that it was just the two of us. We had been out to dinner in Dubai. Came back to our hotel and typically I took my make up off, put my pyjamas on and poured myself a gin and tonic. I went to see Paul who was on the balcony. We had sat on the balcony most evenings playing cards (very rock and roll).

I sat down, chatting away, talking about how good our meal had been.  And to my shock, on the table was a jewellery box. And he got down on one knee and asked if I’d marry him!

Tell us about your beautiful engagement photoshoot.

I was really nervous about doing it. I was scared that it would be deemed as ‘cheesy’ and be a bit of ‘engagement overload’. I worried about what to wear; what looked good? What doesn’t look good?! What’s slimming? My photographer gave me some good advice on what to wear and what not to wear. So I took her advice and was delighted on the outcome of the photos. I did my hair and make up myself (make up is a passion of mine), got my best dress (Jaeger) and (Louis Vuitton) handbag and French Connection heels and was determined to look and feel my best! I wanted to look back on these photos and feel the same way in 50 years as I did on that day. And I’m so glad I did it!

Sarah and Paul will be getting married in 2019 and we wish them all the best! The venue is booked and it will be here before they know it!

A Sensational Snowy Engagement Shoot – LaTara and Corey.

Today we have our first engagement shoot from America and it features not only a beautiful couple, but a beautiful setting. We are so excited to bring you these images!

Latara 2Latara 4

LaTara chose Kaci Lee Photography to help them celebrate their engagement and capture these stunning images. Taken in Prophecy Creek Park in Ambler, Pennsylvania.

“We chose Prophecy Creek Park partly because I had visited the park before and knew how beautiful it was and partly because our photographer Kaci had been there to shoot weddings and engagement shoots several times and she knew there would be the opportunity to have several different backgrounds all within the same location. We didn’t plan on it snowing while we were there but I am beyond happy that it did. I think it really adds sometimes to the shots.

“We’ve been engaged about 5 months as of now. We got engaged July 20th of last year during a trip to Punta Cana to celebrate our 3 year anniversary and both of our 33rd birthdays (we were born 2 days apart.)”

Latara 5Latara 3

“My advice for any brides who are nervous about their engagement shoots is two fold:

1. Don’t be afraid to glam up! I took the time to have my hair and make up professionally done and picked an outfit that I knew I felt amazing in. That inner confidence will shine through in your pictures.
2. Choose a photographer you feel comfortable with. I had spoken with a few others before we chose Kaci. I found her by far to be the easiest to talk to and to share my insecurities with. I’ve always felt really awkward taking pictures but she made the process so easy and fun because she chose poses for us to make us feel at ease and encouraged us to just sort of have fun together and not worry about the camera.”

We absolutely adore Corey and LaTara and we wish them the most incredible wedding day. Fingers crossed that when the time comes we will get to see all their beautiful photographs! Thank you for letting Something New share your images. xx

An Autumnal Engagement Shoot – Melissa and Adam.

Something New’s first ever engagement shoot is an absolute stunner! Melissa and Adam headed out with their amazing photographer Sarah Valentine Photography to Wycoller Country Park.

Melissa said that before the shoot she was feeling really nervous and insecure. She left feeling fantastic, relaxed and ready for her big day!

Melissa and Adam

Lots of brides are scared and often choose not to have an engagement shoot. But it’s always a great way to get to know your wedding photographer. Their signature style, how to pose and stand to get the best natural shots on your wedding day. To those who are a little bit worried Melissa says “Don’t be, I’d planned for days but decided on another outfit at the last minute. But I got there and met up with our photographer, I had fun with my fiance and literally all my worries disappeared. Being in love is the most beautiful thing you can wear, just count to ten and remember you are loved by your husband/wife to be and enjoy yourself!”
