Today, kicking off our 2019 Real Weddings, we have the second part of Melissa and Adam’s love story. If you have been following Something New for a while you may remember that we shared the beautiful engagement images of Melissa and Adam on our blog back in 2017.
Don’t worry if you haven’t seen it if you have only just joined us, you can visit that post here. We love when we get to follow the bride and groom from engagement to their wedding day, and it’s so nice to be able to share these images with you all.
We asked Melissa all about her special day.
Where did you get married and how did you find your venue?
We got married at Christ Church, Walmersley then had our wedding reception at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa in Clayton-le-Moors. I actually accidentally found my venue, I was looking at one near to us on Google Images and this old castle-type building appeared in the search, I clicked on it and instantly fell in love and knew that was were we would have our reception.
How did you choose your wedding dress and how important was it to you to find the one?
I met an amazing lady called Becca at Edith & Winston Bridalwear! I initially fell in love with Robyn by Ronald Joyce, however the more Becca got to know me the clearer it became that I’m a bit of a magpie and love sparkle. It was suggested I waited until the new dresses came into the shop and I come back. As soon as I put it on I instantly knew that was the dress. I can’t actually explain the feeling I got however it was emotional! Being a big girl I found it SO important that I felt and looked good for my wedding, I’d obsessed about it for years and the amount of comments I got on my dress, definitely did the job!
Where did you get his suit from did you help him choose it or did he pick it himself?
Adam, my husband hired his and the groomsmen suits from Slaters in Bolton, they were fantastic and the suits were lovely! We had a bad experience shopping for him initially we actually went to a shop at the Trafford centre and an employee looked down his nose at my husband and said ‘nothing will fit you here, it’s all slimfit’ we soon walked out…
I had a colour scheme in mind so told him ideally what I’d like however they chose the suits.
Did you have a vision for how you wanted your day to look? Or a colour scheme?
I did, however I have to say I did wing it a little. I felt the run up to the day everything was all over the place however when it got to the day I was amazed at how well it all turned out. Donna our venue dresser was absolutely amazing and SO helpful.
What was the highlight of the day?
I genuinely couldn’t choose one, I just know that it went so fast and feels like forever ago now.
Would you change anything about your day or the run up to the day?
Not a thing.
Any advice for nervous brides about choosing your wedding dress?
Please don’t be! Find a boutique, someone you feel you get along with and trust and just have fun. I put every ounce of trust into Becca and it completely paid off. Don’t be afraid to try things on, they look completely different on!
